Norway week three - North Cape

Traveling in bed, is that a dream then?

Last week I often thought about my traveling in my bed, much like in the comic strip "Little Nemo in Slumberland" (published in the New York Herald in 1911-1913 and well worth seeing). He travels to all sorts of places in his dreams, his bed playing a recurring role. I also travel in my bed and not only in dreams, even if it actually all feels like a dream, quite unreal.

Meanwhile, when I wake up at night (since it is always light, I never know what time it is), I don't know where I am. So often I have changed my sleeping place in the last week. It always feels safe in the van, but having to orientate myself first thing in the morning, where I actually live, I find strange for a short time. The days on which I do not travel and try to work concertedly let me also often forget where I'm at the moment and then I ask myself whether I'm really doing the most useful thing by working.

My bed is really cozy with a wool blanket and not a sleeping bag. Kind of like an outdoor bed only on wheels. When it's cold or raining, I spend even more time there. I work sitting on the bed. Always with a changing all-round view of the world outside. Only for driving, it seems, do I switch to the front seat, yet....

On the days I travel, I feel more alive but also like I'm missing the goal of getting on with my work. Even if we arrive at a sleeping place in the afternoon, Freja and I are usually so exhausted that there is only enough time for eating and classic vanlife tasks. These things, such as cooking, cleaning, rearranging, sweeping, washing hair with ice-cold water, for example, take much more time than in an apartment. I still don't mind traveling like this and I hope it stays like this and that the weather will be a bit more pleasant. Also, this morning I had the suspicion that my mattress felt a bit flat and I feel the slatted frame more every night. I hope my cozy bed on wheels holds out for a few more weeks.

Things I have already learned:
06. even if the sun shines through at night, it can be very cold.
